Vasotec, also known as enalapril, is an ACE inhibitor. Vasotec can be used to treat high blood pressure and consequently improve heart function in patients suffering from heart failure.

Researchers recently discovered that Vasotec is not as effective in treating heart disease in African Americans as it is in whites. The study found that Vasotec reduced the need for hospitalization of white heart failure patients by 44%. When doctors evaluated African Americans taking Vasotec, they did not find a similar reduction in hospitalization rates. If you are an African American currently taking Vasotec, it may be important to see your doctor regarding this new research.
