Three lawsuits blame Air Products and Chemicals Inc. for the release of the chemicals. The plaintiffs claim that they have trouble breathing, suffer from headaches, sinus problems, fatigue and a variety of other ailments. Company officials claim that the releases of ammonia and methylamines were not concentrated enough to cause any permanent injuries.

Ammonia is an irritant which can burn the eyes, lungs and throat when inhaled. Methylamines can cause throat irritation, nausea, headaches, coughing and chest tightness. Exposure to high levels of either of these chemicals can cause death.
