Corticosteroids given to pregnant women may cause more harm than good. A recent study found that while corticosteroids stimulate adrenal gland hormones and sometimes help premature babies survive, they can also harm infants by causing bleeding in the brain, developmental disorders, and undersized heads.

Corticosteroids, adrenal cortex steroids often used as anti-inflammatory agents and in the treatment of asthma, have been linked to Achilles tendon ruptures in elderly patients also taking quinolones.
