Residents from two Louisiana cities are suing local wood treatment facilities alleging exposure to toxic substances has led to serious health problems. Pineville and Alexandria residents claim air, water and soil contamination from the Colfax Treating Co. and Durawood has led to increased
cancer rates as well as
respiratory and
neurological disorders. Creosote, a highly toxic wood-treating substance, is produced at both plants while pentacholorphenaol (PCP) is used at the Colfax plant.
Dioxin,
lead, chromium and
benzene are also allegedly produced during the treatment process at both facilities. The lawsuits allege the companies mishandled the substances through spills, leaks and multiple accidents.
See your doctor if you live in Pineville or Alexandria and you have experienced serious health problems. In addition, it may be important to
contact an attorney who can help you protect your legal rights. Please keep in mind that there may be
time limits within which you must commence suit.
